How can you prepare for a rainy day? The answer is blowing in the wind.

Small wind electric systems can deliver serious energy. This is just one lesson people are learning all around the world. From remote homes and cabins to rural communications towers and monitoring stations, people are using small wind system to generate inexpensive energy, right where it's needed. And for a great many of these people, the system of choice is Southwest Windpower's Air generator.

Today, Air Breeze, the new generation of the world's best-selling small wind generator, powers countless lights, radios, computers, tools and appliances. It is also used widely to complement solar PV systems. Air Breeze is a perfect choice for hybrid wind/solar systems that provide you with the most reliable year-round energy supply.

Solar and wind work together

Solar and wind resources often compliment each other. Generally when it is sunny it is calm and when it is cloudy it is windy. This complimentary effect is even greater during seasonal changes. During the winter and spring when the sun is at its least exposure, the wind is at it highest. A Wind Turbine during these periods is essential to keep your batteries charged and your lights on.

Remote Homes and Cabins

The Air Breeze is designed to make it simple for the user to site and install. If you have a wind resource greater than 8mph (4 m/s) and your area is free from obstacles then a wind generator will likely be a good match. It is that easy! An important reason to have a wind turbine is because of the seasonal variations of your solar and wind resources. A hybrid system that uses both solar photovoltaic panels and a wind turbine will make the perfect compliment that provides minimal interruptions in power. The Air Breeze charge batteries with an output of 30kWh a month in an average wind condition of 12 MPH.

Sailboats

The Air Breeze Marine was specifically designed for the cruiser. It is an easy to install, easy to maintain wind turbine and will provide years of maintenance free service. It is designed for 20-45’ boats and can be mounted on the stern with an optional tower kit or on a mizzen mast as shown in one of the pictures above

Telecommunications

If your remote site uses a battery bank of any voltage configuration and is charged by a generator, PV panels or both; and you have a 9 mph (4.5 m/s) wind resource or better, then a small wind system will work. Using an existing communications tower, you can install and Air Industrial off the side using available hardware and connect the turbine directly to your batteries. It is that simple. Every time the wind blows, it reduces the run time on your gas generator saving you hundreds or even thousands of dollars per year in fuel costs.

Off-Shore Platforms

The Air Breeze is extremely effective for providing small amounts of power on platforms even in volatile environments. Special explosion resistant diversion loads safely dissipate any extra energy not used on the platform. The AIR-Industrial uses a sealed alternator design that is free from potential arcing. Furthermore, the turbine’s cast aluminum frame and powder-coated body make it resistant to the corrosive elements.

Cathodic Protection

Cathodic protection is a method of preventing corrosion of metal pipes, industrial systems or other infrastructure that is submerged in water or buried in the earth. Corrosion is prevented by running a low-voltage electric current to the metal (cathode) that needs protection. The Air breeze can charge battery banks perform beautifully in this application.

Monitoring Sites

Small wind systems are extremely effective for providing small amounts of power for monitoring sites. Southwest Windpower’s turbines are easy to transport and install and can be used on a variety of structures. If you have a wind resource greater than 8 mph (4 m/s) and your area is free from obstacles then a wind generator will likely be a good match.
